Evaluating potential expansion and strength of compacted steel slag aggregates at different compaction density

چکیده
Abstract Steel slag aggregates can be utilized as unbound materials for road bases or fine/coarse in asphalt/cement paving concrete. However, the availability of free lime (f-CaO) is detrimental to volumetric stability, affecting strength durability resulting products incorporating steel aggregates. This paper investigates potential expansion fine and coarse compacted at different compaction densities. The experimental results exhibited a higher stability granular mixture exposed water than one. Also, more increased expansibility mix, especially high density. Furthermore, graded aggregate other findings provide reference information on useability cement-based materials, like replacement better ones volume

Strength evolution in heterogeneous granular aggregates during chemo–mechanical compaction
We present a model capable of following the evolution of strength in granular aggregates where dissolution driven by local contact stresses may result in grain interpenetration, precipitation and bonding. At each particle–particle contact mineral redistribution results from the serial processes of stress-enhanced dissolution, mass diffusion along the fluid film separating grain boundaries and t...
متن کاملHigher Green Strength and Improved Density by Conventional Compaction
A new material system that can produce very high green strength and green density has been developed for conventional compaction processing. The system, which uses a zincless lubricant, is based on the optimization of the bonding mechanism and binder chemistry. This approach permits the bonding of copper particles in a FC-0208 mix. Examples of the binder-treatment of FN-0208, Ancorstee145P, and...
متن کاملUse of steel slag as a granular material: volume expansion prediction and usability criteria.
The theoretical equation for predicting volume expansion of steel slag is deduced based on both chemical reaction and physical changes of free lime in steel slag during the hydration process. Laboratory volume expansion testing is conducted to compare the results with the theoretical volume expansion. It is proved that they correlated well. It is furthermore experimentally proved that certain v...

This paper describes a review of the potential use of High Strength Incorporating Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag and Steel Fiber Reinforced Concrete used in construction industry to improve the structural strength and reduce steel reinforcements requirements. Blast furnace slag (GGBS) has been used as a supplementary material along with the cement. It helps in increasing the durability an...
متن کاملAccelerated Carbonation of Steel Slag Compacts: Development of High-Strength Construction Materials
Mineral carbonation involves the capture and storage of carbon dioxide in carbonate minerals. Mineral carbonation presents opportunities for the recycling of steel slags and other alkaline residues that are currently landfilled. The Carbstone process was initially developed to transform non-hydraulic steel slags [stainless steel (SS) slag and basic oxygen furnace (BOF) slags] in high-quality co...
